In the early hours before dawn, high above the Atlantic Ocean, two American pilots aboard a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber embarked on a mission that would send shockwaves through global diplomatic circles.

Their objective -- high-value Iranian nuclear facilities. Their aircraft -- one of the most advanced, secretive, and expensive warplanes ever built.

The operation, dubbed "Midnight Freedom," was launched from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and involved a transcontinental round-trip flight of nearly 40 hours.

The B-2 Spirit, valued at over $2 billion per unit, is known not only for its stealth capabilities but also for the unique environment it provides for its crew. Designed for long-range missions, the aircraft features rest bunks, a microwave, mini-fridge, and a toilet, features tailored for ultra-long missions conducted in high-altitude, low-oxygen conditions.

Beyond the comforts onboard, the B-2’s main advantage is its radar-evading design.

. .

On this mission, the aircraft successfully infiltrated Iranian airspace undetected and dropped precision bunker-busting munitions on suspected enrichment facilities, according to reports from Livemint and Economic Times.

The operation involved mid-air refueling and saw the aircraft return safely without encountering Iranian air defenses.

Only 21 B-2 bombers were ever produced, with fewer than 20 still in service. Their rarity and cost make each deployment a statement of intent and capability.

U.S. President Donald Trump personally authorised the strike, calling it a “measured response” to Iranian provocations. While Tehran’s state media claimed minimal damage and vowed to retaliate, American defense analysts say the strike carried a broader strategic message.

. .

As the B-2s touched down back at their Missouri base, military officials hailed the mission as a success, both tactically and strategically.
