A transformative shift in family travel dynamics is unfolding in India, as highlighted by Hilton's 2025 Trends Report. In an impressive turn of events, 93% of Gen Alpha and Gen Z are stepping up as the primary planners for family vacations, reshaping how families explore the world together.
The report, titled "Small Voices, Big Choices," reveals that 76% of Indian parents now make vacation decisions based on their children’s preferences, outpacing the global average of 70%. This indicates a remarkable shift in the decision-making power of the youth, marking them as central figures in travel planning.
Generation Alpha—those aged 14 and under—comprises a significant 25% of India's population, while Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, represents an impressive 30%. This growing demographic is not only involved in choosing destinations and activities but is also showing a strong enthusiasm for travel, with most averaging two to three trips a year. A staggering 94% of young travelers have traveled at least once, and 90% are likely to embark on new journeys in the coming year.
The report highlights Indian youth’s adventurous spirit, revealing a keen interest in exploring both local gems and international hotspots. Preferred travel destinations include 34% favoring India, followed by 28% choosing Singapore, and 22% opting for the United States. Their travel aspirations reflect a desire to experience India's rich cultural heritage while also setting their sights on global adventures in countries like Australia and the UK.
The data stems from comprehensive surveys conducted by Ipsos and OnePoll, encompassing thousands of parents and young travelers across several countries. The results underscore a growing trend toward “Slow Travel,” with one in four young travelers seeking cultural immersion during their trips.
Technology plays a pivotal role in shaping travel experiences for Gen Alpha and Gen Z. Families are increasingly connected during their travels, with parents and children averaging up to four hours a day online. Gen Z, in particular, leads the way, spending an average of three hours daily on devices.
As these young travelers continue to redefine family vacations, it’s clear that their voices are making waves in the travel industry, paving the way for a new era of adventure and exploration in India. With a growing demand for travel experiences rooted in cultural learning and family heritage, the future of travel looks bright and exciting!
