In recent years, stargazing has been one of the most demanded travel experiences. As light pollution increasingly becomes an issue in cities, tourists are seeking destinations where skies are clear, untouched and dazzling. These are seven of the top locations to which stargazers are travelling this year.

1. Mauna Kea, Hawaii
Mauna Kea rises over 13,000 feet above sea level and is the stargazer's dream. It is in an isolated area and, due to its high altitude and dry air produces pristine conditions. Mauna Kea Observatories are considered one of the best research centres in the world, and visitors can attend a guided tour to observe the telescopes and take part in astronomy classes.

2. Wadi Rum, Jordan
Wadi Rum, as it is commonly referred to as the Valley of the Moon, is a desert heaven of stargazing. It is memorable because of the mix of dramatic sandstone cliffs and twinkling stars.

3. Atacama Desert, Chile
One of the driest locations on Earth is the Atacama Desert, so skies there are rarely cloudy. Powerful telescopes are available in stargazing lodges and observatories here, and the naked eye offers amazing clarity. This combination of the Southern Hemisphere constellations and the unique views of the stars and planets makes it one of the best destinations to visit in 2025.

4. New Zealand Aoraki Mackenzie.
The Aoraki Mackenzie region of New Zealand is an International Dark Sky Reserve and one of the biggest in the world. The reserve has spectacular stargazing viewpoints, surrounded by snow-topped mountains and crystal clear lakes.

5. Namib Desert, Namibia
The Namib Desert in Africa is known to have some of the best rocky landscapes and barren beauty but when the sun goes down, the sky turns into one of the darkest skies in Africa. NamibRand Nature Reserve is recognised as a Dark Sky Reserve where the shooting stars scamper across a horizon of endless brightness. Here, eco-lodges provide open beds outside so they can spend the night in a surreal environment.

6. Jasper National Park, Canada
Jasper National Park, which is the second-largest Dark Sky Preserve in North America, is located in Alberta. Crisp mountain air and low light pollution ensure that Jasper remains a top destination on the stargazers' list even when the festival is not in town.

7. La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain.
The European astronomy centre is known as La Palma, the so-called Starlight Island. Its skies are kept clean and untouched by means of stringent light pollution legislation, and the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory is one of the most developed in the world.
