Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), operated by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL)—a joint venture between the Adani Group and Airports Authority of India (AAI)—recorded a nearly flat year-on-year passenger growth in the April–June quarter of FY2025, handling 1.36 crore travellers. This is a marginal increase compared to 1.34 crore passengers during the same period last year.
According to a recent statement by MIAL, the airport maintained its operational efficiency in spite of airspace restrictions, geopolitical tensions, temporary closures over the Middle East, and a temporary dip in air travel sentiment due to recent aviation-related incidents.
In the first quarter of the current fiscal, 82,369 aircraft movements were handled at CSMIA, reflecting a 1.3% increase over the previous year. International flight operations saw a more notable uptick, rising 3.3% year-on-year.
Among the key highlights for the quarter:
Significantly, from May 16, 2025, the airport began levying a revised User Development Fee (UDF) of Rs 695 per departing passenger, replacing the earlier charge of Rs 120, following an approval by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA).
Additionally, two international airlines—Air Astana and Royal Jordanian Airlines—launched operations from Mumbai in April and June respectively, enhancing connectivity to the Middle East and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) regions.
