YouTube Shorts is getting a host of new AI features: Key details

Make short-form content easier to produce, more engaging, and a whole lot smarter -- that's what YouTube Shorts' new AI features aim to do

YouTube is turning up the dial on Shorts. In an announcement that’s sure to excite creators (and probably worry a few editors), the platform revealed a new batch of AI-powered creation tools set to launch in 2025. The idea? Make short-form content easier to produce, more engaging, and a whole lot smarter.

At the heart of this upgrade is a powerful new suite of editing features, all backed by AI. We’re talking automated scene detection, smarter transitions, and even background removal—all happening with minimal user input. In short, creators will be able to polish up their videos without having to master post-production software.

Another headline feature is AI-generated scripts. YouTube wants to help users go from idea to finished short in record time, and that starts with having a script in hand. Whether it’s dialogue, narration, or just a catchy hook, the AI will help get the ball rolling.

Visuals are getting a boost too. New effects and animation tools will let creators add some serious flair without needing motion graphics skills. With just a few taps, Shorts could start looking more like mini-movies than casual clips.

Accessibility is also a key focus. AI-driven captioning and translation will help Shorts reach a wider global audience, breaking down language barriers in the process.

YouTube says this update is all about lowering the bar to entry. Whether you’re a seasoned creator or just getting started, these tools are designed to help you focus on your story—not the software, as per YouTube.
