The Delhi Police once again turned to popular social media culture to deliver a public safety message, this time issuing an advisory on phone scams inspired by internet memes that proliferated around the blockbuster film "Dhurandhar". The short video was shared on the official Delhi Police Instagram account, drawing on the humour and recognisability of a viral cinematic moment to highlight a serious and widespread form of fraud.

The reel, titled “Day One as Scammer”, depicted a man approaching phone users under the guise of assisting them to install a mobile antivirus application. The clip showed the impostor then leveraging this pretext to illicitly obtain one-time passwords (OTPs) and drain victims’ bank accounts — a method of fraud that authorities have been warning about in recent months.

Delhi Police’s use of trending formats echoed a broader strategy by the force’s social media teams to harness internet humour for awareness campaigns. Earlier this month, the department shared a clip based on the now-viral "Dhurandhar" dance sequence featuring actor Akshaye Khanna to issue an anti-drug message.

In that post, the police contrasted footage of the stylish cinematic entrance with a subsequent scene to underscore how the perceived glamour of substance use can sharply diverge from its harsh reality. The caption urged viewers that “Drug’s high might feel real, but it’s an illusion,” linking the film’s popularity with a message on addiction.

Public reaction was positive, with many users commending the police for tying safety advice to fun trends. One user wrote, "End of the trend, Delhi Police."

"Delhi police is the best," another user commented. A third added, "Delhi Police admin never disappoints us."
