iPhone 18 Pro tipped to offer a new front design with under-display Face ID: Report

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be released in September 2026 and may arrive alongside the company’s highly anticipated first foldable smartphone. While details about the new Pro models have been scarce so far, a new report has revealed the expected camera and display changes in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, these phones could also get a variable aperture support on the main camera.

iPhone 18 Pro: Expected camera, display, and other changes

According to the latest industry reports from The Information, the iPhone 18 Pro series will feature a relocated front-facing camera at the top left corner of the screen, with the Face ID system to move beneath the screen. This would mark a noticeable change from the current centred placement front camera system on the recent iPhones. The company is said to be sourcing materials from Ontario-based OTI Lumionics for the series, especially for the in-display Face ID sensor.

Additionally, the report mentions that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are codenamed V63 and V64, respectively, and could get a mechanical aperture on one of their rear cameras. This would be a first for any iPhone and would allow users to physically adjust how much light the camera lens lets in, depending on the scene.

The Camera Control button is also rumoured to be getting a redesign, as Apple might remove its touch sensitivity and haptic feedback, leaving only pressure-based input with the iPhone 18 Pro series. Further, with these camera changes, both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max may get new LTPO+ displays, which are expected to support higher refresh rates while using less power, offering faster scrolling and improved battery life.
