Scammers keep finding new techniques and tricks to deceive their targets, and the latest one is the “Your Apple ID is suspended” email that users receive from fake Apple Support. Rest assured, this email isn’t from Apple, and it’s another attempt by scammers to get your login credentials and other sensitive information. In this article, we will discuss all the important aspects of this new Apple ID suspended scam, including some tips on how to stay protected.

What is the Apple ID suspended scam?

The idea behind this new scam is not new. This is the oldest scam trick in the book – Phishing email. Scammers send users a message: "Your Apple ID has been suspended due to unusual activity or missing or invalid information. The email comes from a fake Apple Support account that has been designed to look and feel like an authentic one. In fact, other details in the email will make you believe it is genuine. The email also includes a blue button that reads “Go to Apple ID”.

How does this scam work?
The idea is pretty simple actually. All scammers want is for you to click on that Go to Apple ID button and enter your login credentials to log in and update the required information to reactivate your account. They create a sense of urgency like – if you don’t enter the necessary details, the account will get blocked permanently.

Do note, that once you enter your login credentials, it gets shared with the scammers and then they can use it to get your other critical information like saved passwords in iCloud, address, banking details, etc.

How to stay protected from the Apple ID suspended scam?
Be extra careful about what you click: Always doubt the link that you are clicking. Make sure that it has come from an authentic source.

Use the official Apple ID website: It is advisable to manually open the Apple account website and then log in. Or use an Apple device to access your Apple ID and make necessary changes (in case you want to move forward with an email message).

Check for errors: It can be on the website address, the email address or some typo in the email. Check for poor grammar and spelling mistakes.

Enable 2FA for Apple ID: It is important to enable Two-factor authentication for Apple ID. with this enabled, scammers won’t be able to access your account, even if they have your login credentials.
