Windows 11 is likely getting new sound settings, here’s what’s changing for users

Microsoft has been planning to replace the Control Panel, replacing one or more settings at a time and moving them to the new Settings app. The latest attempt is the Sound settings replacement. As spotted by X user PhantomOfEarth, an internal Windows 11 Build has a new hidden “Soundscape” page that’s likely the replacement for the Sounds settings in the Control Panel.

It’s not fully functional though. The report mentions that the Soundscape page is currently just a placeholder and does not have any menu or controls in it. The option is available within the 25267.1001 build and it the link from Sound settings from the Control Panel has been removed and the page is currently of no use.

In simple words, once the new Soundscape page is enabled, the old Control Panel option gets removed automatically.

While there’s nothing within the container, there’s a one-line description that reads, “Startup sound, scheme, audio events”. Now, this indicates that the new page is supposed to bring all the sound controls from the legacy settings to this new page and offer all sorts of sound-related options under one roof.

In terms of functionality, not much is likely to change. All the features from the legacy version is expected to make the cut to the new page. However, we expect Microsoft to add more settings and options within it. However, the biggest change will be the modern user interface that aligns with the design language of the Windows 11 operating system and certainly, the 40-year-old Control Panel can’t keep up with it.
