Parliament Live: Lok Sabha adjourned till 11 am tomorrow

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will reply to the debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha as the government and Opposition clash over key issues.

In Lok Sabha, speaking on conflict in West Asia, EAM Dr S Jaishankar said, "In view of the implications of this conflict for our energy security, the government remains committed to ensuring that it takes into account the availability, cost and risks of the energy markets. For us, the interest of the Indian consumer is and will always be the overriding priority."

In his concluding remarks, Jaishankar said, "India is in favour of peace. The wellbeing and security of the Indian community in the region is our priority. Our national interest, including energy security, will always be paramount."

"The Prime Minister continues to closely monitor the emerging developments, and relevant ministries are coordinating to ensure effective responses," said EAM Dr S Jaishankar as he makes a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the situation in West Asia.

Speaking in Rajya Sabha, LoP Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Under Rule 176, I request permission for a discussion on the issue of emerging challenges for India's energy security in view of the changing geopolitical situation in West Asia."

Opposition MPs raise objections as EAM Dr S Jaishankar rises to make a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the situation in West Asia.

On no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said, "The ruling party should think why this happened. Ever since Modi's rule began in this country in 2014, he has been unwilling to accept the opposition in any House, be it the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha...The government doesn't run the House, and the Leader of the Opposition is humiliated, and microphones are turned off..."

Congress MP Manickam Tagore B on Monday criticised the Centre for scheduling a parliamentary statement by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the conflict in West Asia, rather than a discussion in the Lok Sabha.

Calling it a "pasted statement," Manickam Tagore sought accountability from the central government over the nation's energy security and the safety of Indian citizens in the Gulf region.

As the second part of the Budget Session set to commence on Monday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh called for a full-fledged discussion in Parliament on the evolving situation in West Asia.

According to the Lok Sabha's list of business issued on Sunday, Jaishankar will brief members on the developments in the region.

In a post on X, Jairam said that the problems with Ministerial statements are that they convey the information which is already known, with MPs not allowed to seek clarifications or ask questions.

The Monday’s session will be the second part of the Budget session. It is expected to be stormy as the first item to be taken up will be the no-confidence motion admitted against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Another issue that will likely be taken up is the ongoing conflict in West Asia. S Jaishankar is expected to address the Parliament on the escalation Israel-Iran tensions.
