Tesla and xAI CEO Elon Musk has criticised Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude in a post on X, calling the system “woke” and mocking the company’s logo.

Musk made the remark while responding to a post shared by an X user that questioned the responses generated by Anthropic’s AI model. In his reply, Musk wrote: “Claude is woke and their logo looks like an anal sphincter,” followed by a laughing emoji.

The comment quickly spread across the platform and received significant engagement. The post had recorded more than 9.7 million views along with thousands of replies, reposts and likes at the time of writing.

Post that triggered the reaction

Musk’s comment came in response to a post shared by X user Taya (@travelingflying). The user claimed that Anthropic’s Claude responded differently when asked about two public figures.

The post stated that Claude described conservative commentator Charlie Kirk negatively while giving a positive assessment of George Floyd. The user concluded the post by claiming that the AI model was “woke.”

Musk quoted the post and added his own remark about the chatbot and the company’s logo.

Debate around AI bias

Anthropic’s Claude is one of the prominent large language model-based AI assistants competing with systems from companies such as OpenAI, Google and Musk’s own artificial intelligence company xAI.

The chatbot is designed to generate text, answer questions and assist users with tasks such as coding, research and writing.

Anthropic has said that Claude is built using techniques intended to guide how the model responds to sensitive or controversial topics. The company has described its approach as focusing on AI safety and alignment.

Concerns around bias and ideological leanings in AI models have become a recurring topic in the industry. Critics argue that training data and design choices can influence how models respond to political or social issues.

Rivalry in the AI race

Musk has previously criticised other AI systems over claims of political bias. His own AI venture, xAI, has launched the Grok chatbot, which is integrated with the X platform.

Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers, has become one of the major players in the race to develop advanced AI models, releasing several versions of the Claude chatbot in recent years.

Musk’s latest remark adds to the growing public debate around the behaviour, design and perceived bias of modern AI systems.
