Losing luggage while flying can be one of the most frustrating travel experiences. To address this common issue, Google has introduced a new feature in its Find Hub app that allows travellers to share the location of their lost baggage directly with airlines. The feature is already being accepted by several global carriers, including Turkish Airlines.
The airline has partnered with Google as a launch partner for the “Share Item Location” feature within the Find Hub ecosystem. Through this collaboration, Turkish Airlines will now accept Find Hub-generated location links as part of its official baggage recovery process, helping locate delayed or misplaced luggage more efficiently.
How the Find Hub luggage tracking feature works.
The new feature enables passengers to generate a secure link that shows the real-time location of their baggage if it has a compatible tracker tag attached. This link can then be shared with airline representatives, allowing them to pinpoint the bag’s location and speed up the recovery process.
Here’s how travellers can use the feature:
1. Find and share the location
Passengers need to open the Find Hub app on their Android device, select the missing item, and tap the “Share Item Location” option. This generates a unique and secure URL.
2. Provide the link to the airline
The generated link can be shared with the airline through its app or website during the baggage claim process. The airline team can then track the item’s location as it updates.
3. Stop sharing anytime
Travellers remain in full control of the location-sharing feature and can disable it anytime directly from the app.
Privacy and security features.
Google has emphasised that the feature is designed with privacy and security in mind. The location link automatically expires after seven days, and passengers can manually stop sharing the location at any time. Additionally, all location data is encrypted to ensure secure access.
Location sharing also turns off automatically once the item is detected back with its owner.
What travellers need to use the feature.
To access the service, travellers will need:
Airlines already supporting Find Hub tracking.
Google has partnered with multiple global airlines to integrate this technology into baggage recovery processes. Apart from Turkish Airlines, airlines currently supporting the feature include Air India, China Airlines, Saudia Airlines, and Scandinavian Airlines.
The feature is also supported by airlines under the Lufthansa Group, — including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines.
More airlines are expected to join the programme soon, including Qantas.
A step toward smarter travel.
This collaboration between Google and airlines highlights a growing focus on technology-driven travel solutions. By enabling passengers to share the exact location of their bags, airlines can reduce delays in baggage recovery and improve the overall travel experience.
As air travel continues to evolve, such digital tools are expected to play a key role in making journeys smoother and less stressful for travellers worldwide.
