Qantas is expanding its services from Bengaluru to Sydney to meet the high demand during the peak holiday season, the national carrier of Australia said on May 14.

"Between mid-December 2024 and late March 2025, the airline will increase flights from five per week to daily, adding over 12,000 seats between the two cities over the four-month period, pending government and regulatory approval," a spokesperson of Qantas said.

Qantas commenced non-stop operations between Bengaluru and Sydney, four times a week, in September 2022, marking the first direct connection between southern India and Australia by any airline. In October 2023, frequency was increased to five times a week.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said, “Demand for travel between India and Australia continues to be incredibly strong, so we’re pleased to be responding with extra flights to Sydney. These additional flights are timed to cater to more travelers to Australia in summer, facilitating more reunions among families and friends over the holiday period.”

Bangalore International Airport Limited Chief Operating Officer, Satyaki Raghunath, said the expansion, commencing in December, would give travellers from south and central India a wider range of options for both business and leisure travel.

These will be in addition to Qantas’ existing flights from Delhi to Melbourne, which operate three days a week.

Qantas’ operates India flights on Airbus A330 fleet, featuring 27 business class suites in a 1-2-1 configuration, with each suite offering direct aisle access and converting into a lie-flat bed.

Qantas recently said it would accelerate a programme to introduce "fast and free" Wi-Fi across its fleet of international aircraft, including A330, with enough bandwidth for every passenger to enjoy a fast and consistent connection. The service will be rolled out on Qantas flights between India and Australia from 2025.
