Pornhub, the world's largest adult-video content site, has been banned in 17 US states as of January 1, 2025. Many US states have implemented strict age-verification laws aimed at protecting minors from accessing explicit content.
Which US states have banned Pornhub?
The states that have imposed these bans include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
What does Pornhub have to say?
Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, has publicly supported age verification but argues that the current implementation of these laws is flawed “Aylo has publicly supported age verification of users for years, but we believe that any law to this effect must preserve user safety and privacy, and must effectively protect children from accessing content intended for adults,” a spokesperson said in a statement shared with multiple news outlets.
The company also said that the way states have have chosen to “implement age verification is ineffective, haphazard, and dangerous.” Arlo argued that the move also puts personal information of users in jeopardy.
The latest US state to ban Pornhub is Florida. The state has new laws in place which restricts other social media platforms as well. Florida’s House Bill 3 mandates that social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, prevent children aged 14 and under in the state from creating accounts.
The legislation also requires these platforms to terminate specific accounts, offer additional termination options, and outline the conditions under which children are barred from entering into agreements to hold accounts.
