Instagram is finally giving Indian users the attention they have been asking for. The company has announced two big updates designed especially for India, one of its largest and most active markets. These updates focus on language, creativity and helping Indian creators reach more people across the country.

The first update is about translations. Instagram is expanding Meta AI translations for Reels to five more Indian languages: Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. Earlier, translations were available only in English, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese. Now, if a creator records a Reel in Hindi, they can quickly translate it into Tamil or Bengali so people in other states can understand it.

Instagram says the translations keep your original voice quality. There is even an optional lip-sync feature that adjusts your mouth movements to match the translated audio. So the video will look like you actually recorded it in that language. For a country where people speak so many different languages, this update could seriously help creators grow their reach.

The second update is new Indian fonts for Instagram’s editing tools. Users will soon find fonts in Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts. This means you can write captions or add text in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali or Assamese in a style that actually looks native to the language. If your phone is already set to an Indian language, Instagram will automatically show you those fonts first. The rollout will start with Android users in the coming days.

These updates come at a time when Instagram has been releasing a lot of new creative features. The app recently added AI restyling for photos and videos, better editing tools, bulk caption edits, video reversing and more sound effects. There is even a lip-sync tool that can animate still images.

With millions of Indian users creating content every day, Instagram clearly wants to make the app feel more local and easier to use. These language tools and fonts are another step toward making the platform more friendly for India’s huge and diverse creator community.
