Saweety Boora, ex-world champion boxer, assaults husband inside police station amid divorce proceedings

Former World Champion boxer Saweety Boora finds herself entangled in a controversy amid her divorce proceedings with husband Deepak Hooda, who is a Kabaddi player. The pugilist was seen assaulting her husband, the footage of which was caught on the CCTV camera. The incident reportedly took place inside a police station in Hisar, Haryana on March 15.

In the video, an aggressive Saweety can be getting up from her chair and lunging on to her husband, who was seated in the opposite row. She then holds him by his throat before being separated by other family members present at the time of the incident. The arguments between the two, however, continued as the estranged husband and wife were seen pointing fingers at each other. Shortly after other family members, in particular a man in white attire, was also seen shoving Saweety as the matter continued to escalate. Here is the video:

Saweety, who is an Arjuna awardee, has lodged an FIR against her Asiad bronze-winning kabaddi player husband Deepak, accusing him and his family of assaulting her for dowry. The two got married in 2022. Saweety had lodged the FIR against Hooda, also an Arjuna awardee, in Haryana’s Hisar last month.

A case has been registered under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which pertains to a husband or relative of the husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty.

As reported by The Tribune previously, Deepak has accused Saweety's family of usurping his property and threatening him. Deepak was a part of the Indian kabaddi team which won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2016 and the bronze in the 2014 Asian Games. He has also competed in Pro Kabaddi League.

Deepak had earlier contested the 2024 Haryana assembly polls as BJP nominee from Meham constituency in Rohtak district but it was an unsuccessful campaign.
