PM Narendra Modi praises India's junior hockey team for winning Asia Cup title

India won their fifth Men’s Junior Asia Cup title after beating Pakistan 5-3 in the final.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday celebrated the Indian hockey team's triumph in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup, praising their exceptional skill, relentless determination, and remarkable teamwork, which secured their place in sporting history.

He said on X, “Proud of our hockey champions! It’s a historic moment for Indian hockey as our Men’s Junior Team wins the Junior Asia Cup 2024 title. Their unmatched skill, unwavering grit and incredible teamwork have etched this win into the annals of sporting glory."

Araijeet Singh Hundal delivered an outstanding performance, scoring four goals as defending champions India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 5-3 in the final. With this victory in Muscat on Wednesday, India achieved a hat-trick of titles in the prestigious tournament.

This marks India’s fifth championship win in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup, with previous titles claimed in 2004, 2008, 2015, and 2023. The 2021 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
