Reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz’s bid for a third straight title ended in heartbreak, as Jannik Sinner outclassed him in the 2025 final on Sunday (July 13). Despite Alcaraz’s valiant effort, Sinner was simply unstoppable.
Curently ranked world no. 1, Sinner produced a masterclass of resilience and precision. After dropping the opening set, the Italian roared back to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory and claim his first title at the All England Club.
Final started with both players having immense confidence in their serve. Alcaraz, serving first, made an emphatic start with a blazing ace. The early stages were tightly contested, with neither giving an inch in the rallies or service games.
With the set hanging in the balance, Alcaraz raised the intensity. He held serve with authority and broke Sinner again to clinch the opening set 6-4, drawing loud cheers from the packed Centre Court.
But Sinner, composed and unshaken, turned the tide quickly in the second set. He broke Alcaraz early, pouncing on a rare lapse from the Spaniard in the second game. The remainder of the set saw Sinner maintain the edge with consistent serving and aggressive baseline play, sealing it 6-4 to level the match.
In the third set, Sinner nearly broke again right out of the gate, forcing Alcaraz to save two break points in the first game. Although Alcaraz managed to survive that early scare, the Italian’s pressure never relented. The crucial breakthrough came in the ninth game, when Sinner once again earned the decisive break. He then served out the set with confidence to take a 2-1 lead.
Fatigue began to show in Alcaraz's movement as the match wore on. In the fourth set, Sinner broke him early and never looked back. The Italian’s serve, firing with unrelenting precision, left Alcaraz struggling to find answers. With calm authority, Sinner closed out the final set 6-4, sealing the biggest win of his career.
This Wimbledon triumph marks Sinner’s second Grand Slam title of the season, following his breakthrough at the Australian Open earlier this year. Alcaraz, who won the French Open just weeks ago, now trails the Italian 2-1 in Slam titles for the 2025 season. The US Open is still to come.
