India cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma have filed for divorce, confirms Hindustan Times after Chahal's lawyer give them an official statement. Chahal's lawyer, Nitin K Gupta, confirmed that the divorce petition has been filed with mutual consent. The case was presented before court in Bandra, Mumbai.

The matter is currently under judicial review, and public discussion of it is prohibited by law. Chahal and his family have chosen not to comment on the details reported in the media. The cricketer has also requested that people avoid speculation.

"Mr. Chahal reached a settlement for obtaining Divorce by Mutual Consent with Mrs. Verma. A Petition for Divorce by mutual consent was presented before the Hon’ble Family Court, Bandra. The matter is currently sub-judice," Chahal's lawyer Nitin K Gupta said in an official statement to Hindustan Times.

"Further steps are being taken as per law in this regard. Mr Chahal and his family respectfully choose not to comment on the details circulating in media and request all to refrain from any kind of speculation," he added.

A look at Yuzvendra Chahal's love story with Dhanashree Verma

The couple got married in December 2020 and was a fan favourite on social media platform Instagram. Their chemistry on internet and real life was adored by everyone. While speaking about how they met, the choreographer said, "During the lockdown no matches were happening and all the cricketers were sitting at home and getting frustrated. During that time Yuzi decided one fine day that he wants to learn dance. He had seen my dance videos on social media and back in the day, I used to teach dance and he approached me to be my student. I agreed to teach him."

The pair has faced intense social media scrutiny for months, with rumors circulating online about issues in their relationship. The speculation began after reports surfaced that they had unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Later on, Dhanashree also removed 'Chahal' from her Instagram name and it happened a day after Yuzvendra Chahal shared a cryptic story on Instagram which read, "New life loading."

The speculations got more intense when Chahal deleted all his posts with Dhanashree on Instagram. Chahal and Dhanashree have frequently posted cryptic messages on Instagram, sparking speculation about a possible rift.

Verma's family on Rs 60 crore alimony

One of the most discussed rumours surrounding the divorce has been the alleged claim that Dhanashree was seeking Rs 60 crore in alimony from Chahal. This sparked considerable media attention. However, Dhanashree’s family swiftly rejected these claims.

On Friday, a relative issued a statement, calling the reports “baseless” and urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation. The family member clarified, “We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear—no such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumours whatsoever." The statement continued to emphasise the harm caused by such unverified reports and called for responsible journalism.
