Shikhar Dhawan is engaged in the World Championship of Legends, where is part of the India Champions squad. The Indian team featuring several icons are yet to open their account in the tournament and were previously involved in a controversy related to the schedule.
India were scheduled to kick-off the tournament against bitter rivals Pakistan Champions, however, decided to withdraw from the match at the last moment. The decision came after a lot of public outcry, influencing players from pulling out their names. Shikhar Dhawan, was one of them, besides Yuvraj Singh, Pathan brothers - Irfan and Yusuf, among others.
This led to plenty of hostility from ex-Pakistan cricketers Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt. Taking a strong jibe against India, Afridi noted: "there's one bad egg that spoils everything for everyone else." Butt went one step ahead and challenged India to maintain a similar stance in ICC events and Olympics, since cricket is part of the Los Angeles 2028 roster.

Dhawan was asked about his stance if India qualifies for the semifinal and are scheduled to meet Pakistan again in the tournament. Dhawan reacted strongly to the question and confirmed he won't be playing the match if this happens. "Yeh bhai sahab aap abhi sawal galat jagah pe puch rahe ho. Aapko lagta hain main pressure mein aake...aap ko yeh sawal nahi puchna chahiye. Aur pehle bhi nahi khela toh phir bhi nahi khelunga (Brother you are asking me a wrong question, you feel I'll be under pressure...you shouldn't have asked me this. And since I didn't play before, I won't be playing then)" the left-handed batter responded.
The video of the same has now gone viral on social media.
