Meet Robin Minz, MI's tribal cricketer who found mention in Nita Ambani's speech at RIL AGM

Robin Minz has carved his name in IPL history by becoming the first tribal cricketer to feature in the tournament. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batter caught the attention of both Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans during the auction, sparking a bidding contest that pushed his value from a base price of Rs 20 lakh to a final contract of Rs 65 lakh with Mumbai Indians.

The tribal cricketer, was mentioned by Nita Ambani during her address at the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Annual General Meeting. The young wicketkeeper-batter’s inclusion highlighted MI’s focus on nurturing talent from diverse backgrounds.

“Robin Minz’s journey is a true inspiration. He is the first tribal cricketer and proud member of the Mumbai Indians. His parents sacrificed so much to support his dreams, and today he stands as a symbol of hope for many. In India, no dream is too far if you stay honest and keep working hard,” said Nita Ambani.

Mumbai Indians had already recognized his talent by inviting him to their training camp, and he even traveled to England to enhance his skills. His growing reputation also led to trial opportunities with several other franchises, including Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite attending Delhi’s trials, he went unsold in the 2023 IPL auction.

Inspired by his idol MS Dhoni, Minz decided to focus on cricket after completing his 10th standard. His father, who previously served in the army, now works in the security department at the Jharkhand airport, supporting his son’s ambitions.

However, Minz’s IPL journey began on a tough note. Making his debut against Chennai Super Kings on March 24, he was dismissed for just three runs. Even so, his historic entry and raw potential mark him as one of the promising youngsters to watch in the coming seasons.
