Sunrisers Hyderabad have been finishing at the bottom of the IPL Points Table for the past three seasons in the Indian Premier League. The champions of 2016 have had too many changes among coaches and captains, which perhaps affected the ultimate goals. The combination of Pat Cummins and Daniel Vettori is the third change in recent years after David Warner and Trevor Bayliss in 2021, Kane Williamson and Tom Moody in 2022, and Aiden Markram and Brian Lara in 2023.
SRH shelled out Rs 30.80 at the auctions and recruited Australian captain Pat Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore. The franchise also roped in World Cup hero Travis Head for Rs 6.8 crore.
Cummins was part of the Delhi Daredevils before it became Capitals. He last represented Kolkata Knight Riders from 2020 to 2022. Travis Head has only appeared in two seasons of the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, in 2016 and 2017. Head will make an IPL comeback after seven years.
Besides Head, South African batter Heinrich Klaasen, retained for Rs 5.25 crore, will provide the fireworks. He will have Mayank Agarwal for an explosive start, followed by the calm Rahul Tripathi in the middle-order.
Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the first three matches, but on return, he should be as potent as Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, who used to represent SRH till 2021. Indian off-spinner Washington Sundar will handle the powerplay, along with veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
SRH probable XI: Mayank Agarwal, Travis Head, Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Pat Cummins (c), Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Umran Malik, T. Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar
