IPL playoffs: Gujarat Titans (GT) were the first team to qualify for the playoffs, which they did after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC), who finished fifth, in a high scoring encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The match saw KL Rahul, who revealed ambitions of returning to the T20I side, smash an unbeaten 112 off 65 balls, which ushered DC to 199/3. Despite the stiff total, it never appeared substantial against GT's in-form opening pair of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. Both players in contention for the Orange Cap produced a spectacle and wrapped the show with an over to spare. Sai went to smoke 108 off 61 balls, Gill smashed 93 off 53 as both returned unbeaten to power GT to a 10-wicket victory. The win also paved way for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to advance to the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians (MI), who have witnessed an upward graph in IPL 2025, were the fourth team to make it to the playoffs and incidentally they also achieved it by beating DC at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
While the playoffs teams were decided, the contest to finish in the Top 2 got hotter with every passing match. Such was the competition that on Tuesday, when the final league match of the season was played between Lucknow Super Giants and RCB, the fate of who would finish in the Top 2 were decided.
As per the final standings, PBKS lead the charts with 19 points. RCB are placed second despite the same number of points but a slightly lower Net Run-Rate (NRR). GT slipped to third despite occupying the pole position for a significant period and MI finished fourth.
