IPL: Jasprit Bumrah-Karun Nair bury the hatchet after heated altercation

Karun Nair and Jasprit Bumrah are getting along just fine. Following Sunday's IPL 2025 encounter between the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, the seasoned cricketers put their furious argument behind them and shared a light moment. Visuals of Nair and Bumrah laughing, shaking hands, and conversing were posted on DC's social media account the day after the game, making it evident that they were not at odds.

In the video, Nair is seen talking to Bumrah, what appears to be an explanation behind the collision that led to the argument between the two. The MI speedster then shook his hand and embraced him with a hug.

The clash saw Nair smash 89 off 40 balls in his IPL return after three years but it was overshadowed by his tense on-field altercation with Bumrah. The sixth over - the last one of the powerplay - bowled by Bumrah led to the drama between the two. Nair sprinted for a second run on the final delivery to complete his fifty off just 22 balls as Bumrah conceded 18 runs, featuring two sixes and a four.

The double, however, led to a mild collision between the two at the non-striker's end and Nair apologized right after. But Bumrah was not impressed by it, especially after the belting earlier. During the ensuing strategic timeout the tension increased and the duo were seen exchanging words as the pacer tried to establish his dominance on the field. The tensed moment forced Hardik Pandya to intervene and Nair was spotted explaining the situation to the MI captain.

Karun Nair's sensational return to IPL

Nair's attack on Bumrah was nothing short of amazing. He showed no signs of rust when facing one of the best bowlers in the world, scoring 29 runs off just 9 balls in Bumrah's two powerplay overs. Nair claimed 11 runs in the fourth over before launching an incredible 18-run assault in the sixth, which included a couple of maximums and boundary.

As a result, Nair became the Indian batsman to score the most runs against Bumrah in a single IPL match. Bumrah also joined Pat Cummins (26 runs in 2022) and DJ Bravo (20 runs in 2018) as the players who have bowled the most expensive overs in the history of the competition.

Nair later revealed in the post-match press conference that his aggressive approach was strategic: “I was in the flow and didn’t want to stop. He’s the best bowler in world cricket, so I had to be watchful and pick the right balls.”

Nair was eventually removed by Mitchell Santner in the 12th over but it set the tone for DC's 206-chase, which only broke down after a dramatic collapse that included three consecutive run-outs in the 19th over.
