Last year finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to Gujarat Titans (GT) by 38 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday. Despite the batting arsenal they possess, SRH managed 186/6 in their 20 overs chasing a stiff 225-run target against GT, who registered their fifth successive win against SRH in six completed games.

The defeat against GT was SRH’s seventh loss in ten games and their chances of making the IPL 2025 playoffs took a major blow. With six points, they are placed ninth and are a defeat away from being eliminated. 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals and five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have already been eliminated.

Before the season started, SRH were being looked as one of the most formidable teams, boasting the likes of Tarvis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen in their ranks. But their repeated batting failures resulted in a string of defeats. Their top order has been a disappointment with Travis Head scoring just 281 runs from 10 matches.

After the defeat against GT, the Aussie opener’s post on his X account summed up SRH’s dismal season in this edition.

Abhishek Sharma scored a hundred this season but his 314-run accumulation from 10 matches has not been enough to help SRH cause, especially when he lacked support from the other end. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, who started the season with a bang and hammered an unbeaten 106, has managed just 90 runs in the next nine matches.

Heinrich Klaasen too hasn’t done any wonders with the bat, scoring 311 runs from 10 matches and even their captain Pat Cummins has failed to inspire the team with the ball, managing just 10 wickets from the same number of matches.

In addition, it has also been a tough season for senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who has managed just six wickets in nine innings. In fact in six of those games, he didn’t even complete his four-over quota, which has only compounded SRH's miseries.
