CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2025 Highlights: Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings became the first team to be eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition as they crashed to a four-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
CSK lost five consecutive games at Chepauk for the first time in their IPL history as PBKS extended their winning streak against CSK to 7 out of the last 8 games that includes 3 wins at Chepauk in 3 visits since 2023, by chasing down the 191-run target with 2 balls to spare.

Here are the five points that were instrumental in PBKS knocking CSK out of the playoffs race:
Sam Curran’s first fifty of the season:
England all-rounder Sam Curran not only struck his first half-century of the season, but also bettered his unbeaten 63-run knock that came for PBKS against RR last year in Guwahati.
Curran smashed 4 sixes and 9 fours in his 47-ball 88 before falling to Marco Jansen caught by Josh Inglis.
In addition to being the best individual score for CSK this season, Curran's 88-run innings was his second-highest T20 score, after his unbeaten 102 for Surrey against Hampshire in the previous season's T20 Blast.

The Dhoni show at Chepauk:
As usual, MS Dhoni walked out to loud chants and cheers from the Chepauk crowd with CSK at 172/5 in 17.4 overs. The crowd went Dhoni! Dhoni! Dhoni! as the captain edged the first ball that he faced over the keeper for a boundary to get off the mark.
Dhoni then smashed a one-handed six off Yuzvendra Chahal in the next over that went sailing over long-on and was caught by Ravindra Jadeja outside the ropes. But Chahal had his revenge on the very next ball, much to the dismay of the Chepauk crowd, when he had his former captain caught by Nehal Wadhera at long-off. Dhoni walked back after scoring 11 runs off 4 balls.

Chahal’s hat-trick:
Yuzvendra Chahal proved once again why he is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history by grabbing a hat-trick after dismissing Dhoni in the penultimate over of the CSK innings.
Chahal first had Deepak Hooda caught by Priyansh Arya at backward point, then clean bowled Anshul Kamboj with a delivery that skidded through and rattled the stumps and then had Noor Ahmad caught by Marco Jansen, who ran in from long-on to give Chahal his second IPL hat-trick.

Prabhsimran shines for Punjab:
Opener Prabhsimran Singh led the Punjab Kings run chase with his third fifty of the season – all away from home. Prabhsimran set the stage for the chase by smashing 4 sixes and 5 fours in his 54-run knock that came off 36 balls.
Prabhsimran added 72 runs with his captain Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket before falling to Noor Ahmad caught by Dewald Brevis.

Captain’s knock by Shreyas Iyer:
If there is any cricketer who has justified his expensive price tag in this IPL edition, it is Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who has truly led his team from the front.
Leading the run chase, Iyer reached his fifty off 32 balls – that was his fourth half-century in away matches this season.
Iyer hit 4 sixes and 5 fours in his 41-ball 72 before he edged a Matheesha Pathirana delivery onto his stumps, with Punjab just 7 runs short of victory which they achieved with some drama in the last over.
