It took a long time coming but KL Rahul finally broke his Test hundred drought at home. The stylish opener reached the feat before Lunch on Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Resuming from the overnight score of 53, Rahul reached the century by flicking a full delivery from Roston Chase through mid-wicket for a single.
This was his 11th Test hundred and only the second on home soil – the first coming against England at Chepauk in December 2016.
Celebrating the hundred, Rahul raised his bat while taking the single and took off his helmet, kissed the badge, whistled with his left hand with the bat still raised in the other after completing it.
He was dismissed for 100(197) by Jomel Warrican.

Interestingly, Ravindra Jadeja is the only player in India’s current XI, who made his Test debut when Rahul had last hit a Test century at home.
Rahul is the fifth Indian batsman who has taken 26 innings between two Test hundreds at home, after Vijay Manjrekar, Polly Umrigar, Kapil Dev and Ajinkya Rahane.
Rahul has moved up and down the order right through his career, but now seems to have made the opening slot his own now.
In India’s tour of England earlier this year, Rahul was the third highest run-getter in the series, scoring 532 runs from five Tests at an average of 53.20 with two hundreds.
