The Indian Premier League's (IPL) latest edition will begin on March 22 with a southern derby between last year's winner Chennai Super Kings(CSK) and a revamped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Cricket fans are waiting for bated breath to watch the mouthwatering clash between Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
First match in Chennai
The first match of IPL 2024 will be played at M.A Chidambaram in Chennai, the home ground of Dhoni-led CSK, which won 46 IPL matches played at M.A Chidambaram and lost 18 matches. RCB will look to begin their 2024 campaign with an away win and start the campaign on a winning note. CSK has so far won five IPL titles and shares the record with Mumbai Indians and will look to take a step further for their sixth title and RCB will look to win their maiden trophy.
CSK vs RCB: Likely playing eleven
RCB will continue to look to open the innings with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis and also put Cameron Green in the crucial number three position. The middle order of RCB is likely to be filled by Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Mahipal Lomror. Dinesh Karthik is likely to keep behind the stumps. Karn Sharma is likely to be the spinner in the team and Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Siraj will shoulder the responsibility in the pace department.
For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra are likely to open the innings in the absence of Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane is likely to be playing at the number three position. Shivam Dube who played well in the t20 series against Afghanistan alongwith Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Mitchell Santner will look to fill in the middle order.
Deepak Chahar and Sri Lankan pace duo of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana are likely to shoulder the pace department of CSK along with Tushar Deshpande.
Timings of the match
The match will start at 7.30 pm IST on March 22 and it will be broadcast on Star Sports channel and live-streamed on Jio Cinema.
Pitch Condition
The pitch at M.A Chidambaram stadium is likely to aid spinners but chasing at Chepauk is a bit difficult as the pitch tends to slow down during the second half, however since it is the first match of the season, it is unlikely to have a major impact in the first game.
