This day is also known as Lalita Saptami and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Santan Saptami Puja Rituals

  1. Preparation: Clean the worship area and place a wooden plank covered with a red cloth.
  2. Placement of Idols: Install the idol or picture of Goddess Parvati on the plank. Place a Kalash (sacred pot) filled with water, with mango leaves and a coconut on top.
  3. Offering: Prepare the Aarti plate with turmeric, kumkum, rice, camphor, flowers, sweets, dough balls, and dakshina (offering). Tie seven sweet puris in a banana leaf and place them in the puja area.
  4. Puja: Offer Bel leaves, flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deities, and conduct the Aarti. Wear a cotton thread on your hand while praying for the protection and well-being of the children.
  5. Vrat Katha: Recite or listen to the Santan Saptami Vrat Katha (story) during the puja.
  6. Concluding Ritual: After the puja, perform the Aarti of Goddess Parvati and break the fast by eating the sweet puris.
Significance of Santan Saptami
Santan Saptami is significant for the well-being and long life of children. The fast is observed by both men and women, although it is more commonly followed by mothers. Worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day is believed to bless the devotees' children with good health, happiness, and prosperity. In Rajasthan, this fast is also known as Dubdi Saptami and has similar rituals and significance.
