On this day, Gujarati families cook a variety of dishes, which are then eaten cold on Shitala Satam as part of the ritual. This practice is believed to please Goddess Shitala and bring protection from diseases, especially those related to heat and seasonal changes.

  • Cooking in Advance: All meals for Shitala Satam are prepared on Randhan Chhath. No cooking is done the following day.
  • Offering to Shitala Mata: Prepared food is first offered to the Goddess before being consumed by family members.

Randhan Chhath is always marked one day before Shitala Satam. Shitala Satam is observed on Krishna Paksha Saptami, and Randhan Chhath is observed on Krishna Paksha Shashthi of the Shravan month.
