Significance of Pitru Paksha

During this period, Hindus perform Shraddha rituals to offer food, water, and prayers to their ancestors. It is believed that by doing so, the souls of the departed find peace and are relieved from any worldly attachments. The rituals are typically performed by the eldest son or a male member of the family.

Key Rituals During Pitru Paksha

1. Tarpan: Offering water mixed with black sesame seeds to the ancestors.

2. Pind Daan: Offering rice balls (Pindas) along with sesame seeds and barley flour.

3. Feeding Brahmins and the Needy: It is customary to feed Brahmins and offer food to the poor during Pitru Paksha.

Mahalay Amavasya

The last day of Pitru Paksha, known as Mahalay Amavasya, is considered the most significant day for performing Shraddha rituals. Many people also observe fasts and perform special prayers on this day.
Pitru Paksha is a period of remembrance and reverence for departed souls. It is a time when families come together to honour their ancestors and seek their blessings. By observing these rituals, Hindus believe they can bring peace to the souls of their ancestors and ensure their own well-being.
