The Kedarnath Yatra 2025 has recorded a massive footfall with over 11.4 lakh pilgrims visiting the holy shrine since the temple doors opened on May 2, 2025. The sacred journey to Shri Kedarnath Dham, one of the Char Dhams in Uttarakhand, is witnessing an overwhelming response, boosting the spiritual fervour and local economy alike.
Record Pilgrim Turnout in 48 Days
According to officials, in just 48 days till June 18, the Kedarnath Yatra welcomed more than 11.4 lakh devotees. The pilgrimage continues to attract large numbers from across India, driven by faith and improved infrastructure. The annual Char Dham Yatra, especially to Kedarnath Temple, has significantly benefited hotels, restaurants, traders, and small service providers. Combined, these businesses have reportedly generated a whopping ₹300 crore (three billion rupees) in revenue.
Horse-Mule Services Generate Over ₹66 Crore
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashish Rawat informed that over 2.27 lakh pilgrims have used horse-mule services, contributing to an income of approximately ₹66.7 crore. Despite a temporary disruption due to an equine influenza outbreak, around 8,000 horses and mules are currently registered.
Heli Services Facilitate Smooth Darshan
Helicopter services, crucial for elderly or differently abled devotees, are also thriving. As per District Tourism Officer Rahul Chaubey, eight heli companies are operating from nine helipads, and 49,247 pilgrims have availed this facility, generating around ₹60 crore in revenue. Pilgrims are advised to book only via the official IRCTC website.
Dandi-Kandi Services
The traditional dandi-kandi service, often used for carrying children and elderly pilgrims, has earned about ₹2 crore till June 18. Over 7,000 dandi-kandi operators are actively registered for this year's yatra, as confirmed by officials.
Shuttle Services and Transport Earnings
Assistant Transport Officer Kulwant Singh Chauhan revealed that 225 shuttle vehicles are currently registered for Kedarnath Yatra. These vehicles have collectively earned ₹11 crore 40 thousand till date, playing a vital role in smooth transportation across tough terrains. Authorities have also issued fines worth ₹4.17 lakh to maintain hygiene and enforce regulations across the yatra route, ensuring a safe and clean environment for all pilgrims.
The Kedarnath Yatra 2025 is not just a spiritual journey but a major economic driver for Rudraprayag district and the surrounding region. With over 11.4 lakh pilgrims, crores generated in revenue, and strong administrative support, the yatra continues to blend devotion with development.
