Raghav Juyal, known to fans as the “King of Slow Motion,” is living what many would call a dream moment. His latest project, The Bads of Bollywood, Aryan Khan’s Netflix directorial debut, has put him in the kind of spotlight few could have predicted. The dancer-turned-actor has earned rave reviews for his nuanced performance, becoming one of the series’ standout stars.
But beyond the show’s clever writing and star-studded cameos, what’s really struck audiences is Aryan Khan himself. The son of Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan has stepped behind the camera for the first time and delivered a project that feels original, fearless, and unfiltered.
Where many expected a predictable industry drama, Aryan created a sharp, self-aware satire about Bollywood’s obsession with power, image, and fame.
In an interview with NDTV, Raghav opened up about Aryan’s lesser-seen personality and his surprising sense of humour. “Of course, he smiles. He laughs rolling on the ground. But on camera, he chooses not to. That’s his choice. He is crazy funny. He is something else. God has tuned him differently,” Raghav said.
“I know he is Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s son, but he has a different identity of his own. He is Aryan Khan. He’s a genius, otherwise how could he do a show like this, to play with the public’s perception and make a whole satire on it? It’s a very brave step.”
For Raghav, working with Aryan wasn’t just a creative milestone, it also came with moments he’ll never forget. One of them was his first visit to Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic sea-facing bungalow in Mumbai. And, as Raghav tells it, that experience was as surreal as it was unintentionally funny.
“The first time I entered Mannat, there was a scanner like the ones at the airport. I had to go through it because people were like, ‘Who is this guy? Has someone come to find work?’” Raghav recalled with a laugh.
“By mistake, I asked Aryan which was his room. Then I realised, this is Shah Rukh Khan’s house, you don’t have rooms here, you have full floors. Aryan just laughed and said, ‘Come, let’s go up.’ We sat there and jammed, and later went out for dinner with his friends.”
That visit left such an impression on him that he immediately called his mother afterward. “I told her, ‘Mummy, I just came from Mannat.’ She got so excited and started asking, ‘How is it from inside? How is their bathroom? Did you see the library?’ I had to tell her, ‘Mummy, I didn’t go there as a broker, please relax!’” he laughed.
The Bads of Bollywood isn’t just another Netflix title; it’s a moment where two creative worlds collide, Aryan’s sharp, introspective filmmaking and Raghav’s grounded, effortless screen presence. Featuring cameos from Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar, Badshah, Emraan Hashmi, and SS Rajamouli, the series holds up a mirror to the industry, exposing its chaos, contradictions, and undeniable charm.
