Akshaya Navami 2025: The Beginning of Satya Yuga (Satya Yugadi)

As per sacred Hindu scriptures, Akshaya Navami marks the beginning of Satya Yuga, also called Satya Yugadi. Just as Akshaya Tritiya is associated with the start of Treta Yuga, this Navami celebrates the dawn of truth, purity, and dharma. It is said that any act of charity, devotion, or prayer performed on this day becomes Akshaya - meaning it never fades away and continues to bless the devotee in future births as well.

Devotees engage in puja, fasting, and charitable activities, offering food, clothes, and donations to the needy. This divine observance helps purify one’s karma and brings lifelong prosperity.

Amla Navami 2025 Puja Vidhi: How to Worship the Amla Tree?

A unique feature of this day is the worship of the Amla (Indian Gooseberry) tree, which is regarded as sacred and symbolic of Lord Vishnu. Devotees perform the following rituals on Amla Navami:

  • Purvahna Time Puja: The puja is conducted during the Purvahna Kala (morning hours before noon).
  • Amla Tree Worship: Offer turmeric, vermilion, flowers, rice, and water to the Amla tree, considering it a representation of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
  • Circumambulation (Parikrama): Perform seven or eleven rounds around the tree while chanting Vishnu mantras.
  • Charity (Daan and Punya): Donate food, clothes, or other essentials to Brahmins and the poor, as these acts are believed to yield eternal merit (Akshaya Punya).
  • Family Meal Under the Tree: It is considered auspicious to have food prepared without onion and garlic under the Amla tree after the puja.
Akshaya Navami 2025: Mathura-Vrindavan Parikrama

One of the most spiritually powerful observances on this day is the Mathura-Vrindavan Parikrama. Thousands of devotees walk barefoot through the holy twin towns of Mathura and Vrindavan, seeking divine grace and never-ending merit. Performing this Parikrama on Satya Yugadi is said to remove sins and open doors to spiritual progress.

Amla Navami and Regional Observances

While Amla Navami is celebrated with Vishnu worship in most parts of India, the same day holds a unique significance in West Bengal, where it is observed as Jagaddhatri Puja. On this occasion, devotees worship Goddess Jagaddhatri, believed to be a form of Devi Durga who symbolizes strength, stability, and truth (Satta).

In other regions, women observe special vrats (fasts) for family well-being and prosperity and offer Amla fruits as prasad to the deity.

Akshaya Navami: Spiritual Significance

The word Akshaya stands for imperishable or eternal. Therefore, every good deed performed on this day - whether it’s donating food, helping the poor, or performing puja is believed to bring unending spiritual merit and material blessings. It’s also considered the most auspicious time to start new ventures, buy gold, or invest in property.
