Anastasiya Koshcheeva crafts modern birch objects using Siberian traditional manufacturing techniques. Emphasizing on the importance of the relationship with nature and preserving of handicraft methods, Berlin-based product designer Anastasiya Koshcheeva has come out with a collection of birch bark products named From Siberia (where she was born and raised). The natural birch bark has extraordinary properties: it is flexible, soft, water-repellent, antibacterial, breathable, durable and strong. Despite these unique characteristics, it has not been explored to the fullest. In response, Anastasiya has tried to reinterpret an age-old tradition of no-glue method of joining into contemporary design with this material. Produced in collaboration with Siberian artisans, Tuesa is one such product from her collection. The light, durable and sturdy Tuesa containers are perfect for storing food, spices or herbs. Due to its antibacterial and isolating qualities and the essential oil produced by the birch bark, Tuesa can keep contents fresher longer than glass or plastic. The Svetoch lamps and the Sibirjak chair are the other two products from the series that celebrate the extraordinary properties of birch bark.
