Additionally, US President Donald Trump announced that he will posthumously award country's highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Kirk
"I'm pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom," Trump said during a ceremony at the Pentagon marking the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The shooting occurred during an outdoor event attended by roughly 3,000 people. Kirk, 31, was responding to a question about gun violence when a single gunshot rang out. Cellphone video shows Kirk clutching his neck and collapsing, as blood poured from the wound and the crowd scattered in panic.
Officials believe the shot was fired from a rooftop sniper’s position on campus. The shooter remains at large.
