Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was declared the winner of "Bigg Boss 17" by Salman Khan on Sunday. The 32-year-old beat actor Abhishek Kumar through live voting to clinch the title.
The other contestants who were in the race besides Faruqui and Kumar were Ankita Lokhande, Mannara Chopra and Arun Mahashetty. Faruqui meanwhile, took home a cash price of Rs 50 lakh and a brand new car.
Here are some facts about Munawar Faruqui:
Faruqui was born in Gujarat's Junagadh and was popular on social media through his stand-up videos. He was also a rapper on YouTube.
The 32-year-old has a five-year-old son from his previous marriage that ended in 2022. He was also dating social media influencer Nazila Sitaishi.
In 2022, he participated in a reality television show “Lock Upp” hosted by Kangana Ranaut. He was declared the show’s winner in May. In the same year, he featured in a Punjabi song video “Todh” along with Prince Narula and Rony Anjali.
In 2021, Faruqui made headlines after being arrested by the Madhya Pradesh in the midst of his comic show. A complaint was filed against him that accused the comedian of hurting religious sentiments. He spent 37 days in jail.
Following the outrage, 12 of his shows were cancelled over alleged threats of vandalism. The comic hinted on social media later that he will quit comedy.
Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan were among the special guests on the finale of this season's "Bigg Boss". The first contestant to be evicted was Mahashetty followed by Lokhande and Chopra.
The latest season of "Bigg Boss" aired on October 15 last year with 17 contestants. Lokhande's husband Vicky Jain was among the participants including Anurag Dobhal, Aishwarya Sharma, Niel Bhatt, Jigna Vora, Isha Malviya, and Rinku Dhawan, among others.
