The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding Cyclone Asna, which has been causing heavy rainfall across Gujarat. Currently classified as a deep depression, the cyclone is expected to move West-Northwest over the Northeast Arabian Sea and away from the Indian coast in the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Asna's Path
Cyclone Asna, now moving at a speed of 14 km per hour, is currently located at a latitude of 23.6° N and a longitude of 66.4° E. As of the latest update, it is positioned approximately 250 kilometres west of Naliya in Gujarat, 160 kilometres south-southwest of Karachi, Pakistan, and 350 kilometres east-southeast of Pasni, Pakistan.
Impact on Gujarat
Despite the cyclone's movement away from the Indian coast, the effects of Asna have been felt across Gujarat, with heavy rains continuing to lash several regions. The IMD has warned of possible flash floods, particularly in coastal and low-lying areas, as the cyclone gradually shifts away from the region.
Residents of the affected areas are advised to stay updated with weather reports and heed any advisories issued by the local authorities.
Preparedness and Safety Measures
The IMD and state authorities have been closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents. Precautionary measures, including the evacuation of vulnerable areas, have been undertaken to minimize the impact of the heavy rains and potential flooding.
Cyclone Asna serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather systems, and authorities continue to urge people to remain vigilant until the storm fully clears out of the region.
