Restaurants serving bottomless mimosas (unlimited sparkling wine and orange juice cocktails) to patrons in the US will now charge a “vomit fees” from them. Customers who overindulge in the unlimited drinks will now be charged for throwing up on restaurant premises, CBS News reported.

An Oakland, California-based eatery called Kitchen Story, posted a sign that warns mimosa drinkers about a $50 (Rs 4,163 approximately) fine if they throw up inside the restaurant.

"Dear all mimosa lovers. Please drink responsibly and know your limits. A $50 cleaning fee will automatically include in your [tab] when you throw up in the public areas. Thank you so much for your understanding,” the sign read, according to CBS station KRON in San Francisco.

Another eatery in San Francisco, Home Plate, has imposed the same charge for customers who cannot control themselves and end up dirtying the premises due to intoxication.

Kitchen Story co-owner Chaiporn Kitsadaviseksak told SFGate that the restaurant hasn't had to charge the fee since the sign was posted. "It was really tough cleaning. People were scared with COVID. And this was happening a lot. My workers don't want to do that. It got better. Now [customers] know they have to pay. They understand," he said.

"It's better, but every other week we get somebody throwing up or vomiting. Now they go outside," the owner said.

According to CBS News, such unconventional expenses, including other charges like paying for workers' health care insurance to providing bread and water, are cropping up at a time when many restaurants continue to struggle to hire workers amid a tight labour market and face higher labour and food costs.

Moreover, not only restaurants but Uber also allows drivers to charge cleaning fees, which range from $20 to $150, when passengers make a mess.
