'Thala for a reason': Google's post in honour of MS Dhoni, his jersey number 7 wins hearts

MS Dhoni is affectionately called 'thala' by his ardent fans and supporters.

If you are active on social media, you might have seen several posts on “Thala for a reason” and MS Dhoni’s jersey number. Some people are just posting pictures of the number 7, which is synonymous with Dhoni while others are linking the number to various elements of daily life.

Needless to say that “Thala for a reason” transformed into a trend and fans of the former captain had a lot of fun with it. Now, Google also hopped onto the bandwagon and shared a post in honour of Dhoni and his love for the number 7.

The post by the search giant featured the significance of the number 7. “What is special about number 7?” the question read. To which Google responded with, “There are seven colours in the rainbow, seven days in a week, seven wonders of the world, seven major seas, and even the total number of continents are seven. No other number is having so many connotations and references in many different fields like the number seven. So, it’s a very important number indeed.”

The answer by Google featured a backdrop of several pictures of Captain Cool (A fan name for Dhoni due to his calm demeanour and humble nature on and off the field). “The message is clear. Thala for a reason,” the caption of the post read.

Google’s gesture sent Dhoni’s fans into a tizzy and several of them expressed their opinions in the comments section.

“Even Google needs Thala Dhoni for reach,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “Number 7 is a brand.”

“Google doing GOAT stuff,” a third user remarked. A fourth user added, “Just a normal day of living in Thalaverse.”

Meanwhile, “thala” is a name given to Dhoni by his ardent supporters and fans. Number 7 is very close to the cricketer and hence his admirers as well. “Thala” loosely translates to a leader in Tamil.
