Kannada film actor Nagabhushan SS was arrested on Sunday after he rammed into a 48-year-old woman and her 58-year-old husband on Saturday night. While the woman succumbed to her injuries, the husband is currently critical. The couple were apparently out for a walk at Vasanthapura Main Road in Bengaluru when the incident happened.
According to the police, Prema S and Krishna B were walking on the footpath, when Nagabhushan, driving his Kia Seltos from Uttarahalli towards Konanakunte Cross, allegedly knocked them down, before crashing into an electric pole. They said he was driving the car in a "rash and negligent" manner.
The severely injured couple were rushed to a private hospital. While the woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, her husband is undergoing treatment.
The incident took place at Kumaraswamy layout traffic police limits and the officials rushed to the spot and arrested Nagabhushan. The 37-year-old was later released on bail, the Deccan Herald reported. The police have registered a case and seized his car for further investigation.
An FIR has been registered at the Kumaraswamy Layout Traffic police station against the actor under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304(A) (causing death by negligence).
Nagabhushan has been featured in several movies, especially in comic roles. He is known for his roles in Kannada films Ikkat, Kousalya Supraja Rama, and Daredevil Musthafa. His newest film, Tagaru Palya, in which he plays the lead character, is slated to hit the theatres soon.
