Movie tickets in Karnataka are set to become cheaper after the state government on September 12 issued rules capping ticket prices at Rs 200 (excluding taxes). However, the cap will not apply to multi-screen cinemas with premium facilities of 75 seats or fewer.
This follows a draft notification issued on July 15, 2025, to amend the Karnataka Cinema (Control) Rules, 2014. The government subsequently sought feedback from stakeholders within 15 days at the office of the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department.
The new rules will be called the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
