Top Mumbai realtor Vikas Oberoi and his wife Gayatri were involved in a major car crash in Italy. Both survived, but two other people were killed in the accident.

According to a Times of India report, billionaire Vikas Oberoi was part of a group of sports car drivers. He was driving his Lamborghini in Sardinia when the crash occurred. Oberoi was accompanied by his wife Gayatri Joshi, who is best known for starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the 2004 film Swades.

Oberoi confirmed to Times of India that he and his wife are safe. “Our car skidded off the road but we are safe. However, two people in another car are dead,” he said.

His wife Gayatri confirmed the same to Free Press Journal, which also identified the people who died in the crash as a senior Swiss couple. The couple was Melissa Krautli, 63, and Markus Krautli, 67, were driving in a red Ferrari that was also involved in the crash.

Oberoi and his wife were taken to the hospital where they received treatment. “Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here (multiple-car collision). With god’s grace, we both are absolutely fine,” Gayatri Joshi told the Free Press Journal.

The accident took place during the Sardinia Supercar Experience where luxury cars tour the island. The couple inside the camper van was also rushed to the hospital.

"We were lying sideways in our seats. For a moment we were silent in disbelief. Then I looked into my wife's eyes and asked her if she was okay. She nodded," said Lorenzo M, who was inside the van.

Vikas Oberoi is the managing director of Oberoi Realty, known for its upmarket condominiums and hotels. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.8 billion. He married actor Gayatri Joshi in 2005.
