The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will procure 1,600 thermos flasks for its bus drivers in an attempt to tackle driver fatigue and enhance passenger safety.
In a statement, KSRTC said a “good quality 500 ml thermos flask” will be provided to 1,600 bus drivers who operate during night hours. The transport corporation hopes that the flasks -- meant for carrying tea or coffee -- will help drivers fight drowsiness and reduce road accidents.
The decision to provide KSRTC drivers with thermos flasks was taken, in part, after a recent study found higher number of bus accidents in the early morning hours – especially between 3 am to 4 am.

“A recent study revealed a higher incidence of accidents involving the corporation's buses during the early morning hours, specifically from 3 am to 4 am. To ensure the safety of passengers, it has been recognized as critical for drivers operating during these hours to remain refreshed,” the transport corporation said in its statement.
“To address this concern, drivers are now provided with a 500 ml thermo flask, allowing them to carry coffee or tea during their night duties when hotels or refreshment options are limited,” it added.
