Heavy rains lashed Chennai as Cyclone Michaung continued to cause havoc along India's southern coast, leaving roads, buildings and other major locations across the Tamil Nadu capital inundated, thereby disrupting normal lives.

A landmark location of the city that was also not been spared by the heavy rainfall was Marina Beach, which was flooded by the showers. Several X (formerly Twitter) users shared photos of the beach that was immersed in water with grey skies hovering above the ground. A similar scene was witnessed at the beach in November 2021, when heavy rains again lashed Chennai.

Anticipating a deluge on the beach, local police officials had advised visitors on Sunday to stay away from the location due to the cyclone alert along the southern coast.
The 6 km long beach-the second largest in the world-runs from Fort St. George in the north to Foreshore Estate in the South and attracts large number of visitors, both locally and internationally, on a daily basis at different times of the day.

The Chennai airport situated in the Meenambakkam area of the city was forced to suspend operations for two hours on Monday morning due to the rains. Around 10 city-bound flights were diverted to Bengaluru due to strong winds.

The state government has declared a public holiday for four districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu.
