On the night of September 19, 2025, a luminous meteor streaked across the skies of Delhi-NCR, captivating residents and sparking widespread discussions on social media platforms.

At approximately 1:20 AM IST, a brilliant flash illuminated the night sky, visible across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and as far as Aligarh. Eyewitnesses described the phenomenon as a "shooting star explosion," with many noting its intensity and brightness. Videos shared on social media platforms showcased a fiery trail that fragmented mid-air, leaving glowing pieces in its wake.

Astronomy experts identified the event as a bolide—a type of meteor that disintegrates upon entering Earth's atmosphere due to intense friction and heat. The American Meteor Society had previously noted that September is an active period for smaller meteor showers, though isolated fireball-like meteors can be observed outside of predicted showers.

Residents across Delhi-NCR took to social media to share their experiences and videos of the event. One user tweeted: "Just witnessed this incredible fire streak in the night sky. Looks like a meteor or maybe part of a rocket burning up in the atmosphere. Nature’s own light show from my rooftop. Did anyone else spot it too?"

Another user shared a video with the caption: "Not rockets but the skies were lit by rare meteor spotted over the skies of Noida, Delhi, Gurgaon last night."

Authorities have not reported any damage or impacts resulting from the event. Most meteors disintegrate before reaching the ground, posing no threat to residents. Some individuals reported hearing a faint rumbling sound after the flash, but no official confirmation has been issued regarding this.
