A wedding celebration in Bengaluru took a devastating turn for an Indian-origin couple who had travelled from Canada for their big day. A colour bomb—meant to create a dramatic backdrop during their photoshoot—malfunctioned and misfired, striking the bride and leaving her with severe burn injuries.

Vicky and Piya, who had meticulously planned their picture-perfect wedding, were instead rushed to hospital for emergency treatment following the accident. Speaking to Moneycontrol.com, the couple shared their ordeal, hoping to warn others about the risks associated with fireworks and similar props at weddings.

“We came to Bangalore from Canada for our wedding because our families are from the area,” Piya explained. Despite hiring top wedding planners and taking all necessary safety precautions, the accident still occurred.

The couple had envisioned a grand photoshoot moment where colour bombs would release bursts of vibrant smoke as the groom lifted the bride. However, instead of firing upwards, one of the devices misfired and shot directly at them.

“The colour bomb malfunctioned. Instead of firing upwards, it fired towards us in the wrong direction,” she recounted.

The aftermath was severe—the bride suffered extensive burns, her hair was singed, and the couple had to rush to the emergency room instead of celebrating their special day.

Determined to raise awareness, Vicky and Piya shared a video of the incident on Instagram. The footage captured the exact moment the colour bomb misfired, turning what was meant to be a magical wedding memory into a traumatic experience.

“We never expected this to happen,” they wrote. “We want to warn others about the risks of using such fireworks at their events. Even with the best planners and safety measures, accidents can still occur.”

In their post, the couple also wrote, “A reminder that evil eye is real.” While many users expressed sympathy, some questioned the mention of superstition, arguing that the mishap was a result of a faulty device rather than bad luck.

Colour bombs, commonly used in wedding photoshoots, are smoke grenades designed to release coloured smoke for visual effect. However, incidents involving fireworks at weddings are not uncommon.

In a separate incident, a video from a Maharashtra wedding resurfaced, showing another bride injured by a pyrotechnic device. In the clip, the couple posed with sparkle guns, which release a shower of sparks when activated. Moments after igniting the devices, the bride’s gun exploded from the back, sending sparks directly into her face. She dropped the device in panic, as guests rushed to assist her.

Vicky and Piya’s ordeal has once again sparked conversations about safety standards for wedding pyrotechnics. The couple hopes their experience will encourage others to be cautious when incorporating fireworks or similar props into their celebrations.

“We just want everyone to be safe,” they reiterated.
