Residents of a posh gated community in Bengaluru have been forced to visit a nearby mall every day to use washrooms because of the city’s worsening water crisis, claims a viral Reddit post. While residents of the society had already resorted to using disposable plates and cutlery to reduce water usage, the crisis has forced many to line up at a nearby mall to use its washrooms.
The Reddit post sheds light on the plight of residents. Reddit user and community resident “Familiar-Art-8675” claimed that it had been more than a month since the community received regular, round-the-clock water supply.
The Reddit user claimed that several tenants have vacated their apartments while others have moved to temporary accommodations. Those with no recourse have been using disposable plates to eat their food or have been ordering in to cut down on water used for washing utensils and cooking food.

All of this happening in an upmarket residential complex paints a sorry picture. For many, the situation is especially awful because they are paying EMIs on home loans worth more than Rs 1 crore, while not receiving basic facilities in return.
In the midst of Bengaluru’s water crisis, the Karnataka government has fixed tariffs for water supplied by private tanker operators to prevent them from overcharging desperate customers.
