Bengaluru Swiggy executive is impressed with job seeker's 'old-school approach': 'It worked'

'Now, this isn't the first time someone has approached me, but it's the first time through a physical letter sent via India Post!' Saptarshi Prakash said, adding that it genuinely caught his attention.

When asked why Saptarshi Prakash chose not to reveal the person's name especially when it could have helped with his job search, the Swiggy AVP of design replied: 'I just wanted to be mindful of the person's privacy since the letter was a private one sent only to me.' An assistant vice president (AVP) of design at Swiggy in Bengaluru has recently shared that he was impressed with a young professional's old-fashioned approach of sending him a physical letter to ask for a job. The effort the job seeker put into getting Saptarshi Prakash's attention paid off and he requested the user interface designer to get in touch with him over email.

"Received a physical letter from a designer wanting to join Swiggy with a concept," Prakash wrote on X, sharing pictures of the letter. "Now, this isn't the first time someone has approached me, but it's the first time through a physical letter sent via India Post! In a world where emails and DMs are the go-to methods, this person decided to go old-school to stand out. And you know what? It worked."

In it, the jobseeker pitched a concept they had developed that they felt would be beneficial to the food delivery app's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience. "I would love to have the opportunity to present it to you and the team if given the chance," the applicant, whose identity has been withheld, said. "What I am truly hoping for is a single opportunity to express myself and showcase my work in front of you."

Responding to the letter, Prakash said that although Swiggy does not have any openings for UX/UI designers, he would love to see the concept.

"While we may not have a relevant role at Swiggy for you at the moment, I've definitely taken note of your initiative. For now, please check out the comments in this post. I'd also love to review the concept you have developed. Would you mind dropping me an email? I'm sure you'll find my email address—you found my physical one!" he wrote on LinkedIn.

Prakash also sought help from social media to connect the young professional with possible recruiters.

When asked why Prakash chose not to reveal the person's name especially when it could have helped with his job search, the Swiggy executive replied: "I just wanted to be mindful of the person's privacy since the letter was a private one sent only to me."

But even the internet was impressed with the job seeker's efforts.

"In this age, anyone using a paper of any form and a physical medium itself is refreshing," wrote a Swiggy vice president DMN (@dhimantn). "Going to market to bring 10-20 envelopes now. Will start with Tim Cook," wrote LinkedIn user and software engineer Abhishek Sagar.
