Silk Board junction in Bengaluru is infamous for its regular and lengthy traffic congestion, but on Monday motorists had to ply through flooded roads following heavy rainfall. Videos of the inundated busy junction are doing rounds on social media with many calling the stretch a river.

"Earlier, we used to complain about the never-ending traffic jams at Silk Board, but now, under the Brand Bengaluru scheme, we’ve got a new addition—a river flowing right through Silk Board every time it rains!" Karnataka Portfolio (@karnatakaportf) wrote on X. "What was once known for its frustrating traffic has now turned into a waterlogged mess. From now on, citizens might as well consider buying boats or ships to navigate across the Silk Board area."

Several other areas across the city such as Sarjapur Road, Kengeri, and the entire stretch from Eijipura to Marathahalli too are flooded.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru has issued an 'orange alert' for heavy rains until noon across Bengaluru. Moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers, accompanied by lightning, are likely on Monday. Bengaluru received 62 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30 am on October 21, it added.

The forecast indicates that this wet weather will persist until October 24, with maximum temperatures hovering around 28 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures settling near 20 degrees Celsius.

As per the IMD's weather predictions, Bengaluru will be enveloped in a generally cloudy sky over the upcoming days, likely accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. On October 22, light rain is expected, while more consistent rainfall is forecasted for October 23 and 24. Given the predicted conditions, residents have been advised to prepare for a week filled with wet weather, taking necessary precautions for safety and travel.
